Welcome to the Department of Public Works website. Public Works and our ninety-four full time employees strive to provide the best service we can each day with the resources we have available.
Summer days will soon be upon us and as our thoughts turn toward warm days and outdoor activities please keep in mind the many services that Public Works provides. Yard waste collection resumed in March and residential solid waste customers can place their yard waste curbside for collection on the normal recycling collection day. Yard waste can be placed in the yellow yard waste containers or in biodegradable paper bags.
Also don’t forget the City’s compost site will be open the first Saturday of each month to dispose of large quantities of yard and tree waste. This is another free service for York City residents.
There are many events and programs available for residents in the summer in our Recreation and Parks Bureau. Please take time to visit their portion of the website to learn more about what is offered. Be sure to sign up your children for the Summer Playground Program, an annual tradition in the City of York.
Street sweeping is underway again and residents are asked to help the city by moving your vehicle from the street on the posted street sweeping day.
Please come out and enjoy our special events held in downtown York including the Box Lunch Revue every Tuesday and Thursday at noon in Cherry Lane.
There will be several construction projects occurring in the City this summer and fall as we continue the Rebuild York program. Street repaving will take place on Philadelphia Street, King Street, College Avenue and Sherman Street. Look for advance notice through the media when these projects will start.
I hope you enjoy the warmer months ahead. As always please feel free to contact me at
jgross@yorkcity.org if you have a specific question or need of the Department of Public Works.
