Please be advised that Penn Waste, Inc. is the City's contracted hauler for curbside refuse and recycling collections through April 30, 2011.
General Information
Please have your items placed at the designated collection point prior to 6:00 a.m. Normal collections consist of up to six (6) 32-gallon trash bags or trashcans (maximum 40 pounds each), along with 1/week collection of recyclables and yard waste.
Yard waste is collected March 1 through December 15. Curbside customers may lease up to three (3) yard waste cans per household for $10.00 per can. Biodegradable Kraft Paper Bags can be purchased for $5.00 per pack of ten bags from the City's Public Works office or City Hall. Other biodegradeable paper leaf bags which are sold at other local stores may also be used.
Recycling Bins may be purchased for $8.00 each and Recycling Buckets for $5.00 each.
These items may be purchased at the Public Works office, located at One Marketway West, 3rd Floor, York, Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Accepted forms of payment - cash or check ONLY. Credit or debit cards will not be accepted. (Must show proof of customer status or residency, such as a driver's license or sewer bill.)
The City reserves the right to confiscate any container that is being used for any purpose other than yard waste or recycling collection or that is found outside of York City limits. No refunds will be given.
Any items that are not normal household trash (examples - refrigerator, stove, wood cabinet, lawn furniture, etc.) must be scheduled for collection by calling the Large Item line, Monday thru Thursday, 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. - 717-843-1240. You may schedule up to (5) five large items, per household, per week as needed.
In York City, trash is collected on a four-day schedule. York City is broken into two areas called Refuse Districts. In Refuse District #1 trash is collected on Mondays/Thursdays and in Refuse District #2 trash is collected Tuesdays/Fridays. Recyclables and yard waste are collected once per week (on the first collection day of the week in each refuse district). To find out what refuse district you are in, call 717-849-2245.
HOLIDAY COLLECTION SCHEDULE
Penn Waste observes only these SIX (6) MAJOR Holidays in a calendar year:
January - New Year's Day
May - Memorial Day
July - July 4th
September - Labor Day
November - Thanksgiving
December - Christmas Day
If a holiday falls on a WEEKEND (Saturday or Sunday), there will be NO change to the collection schedule.
If a holiday falls on a WEEKDAY (Monday-Friday). all collections that fall ON or AFTER the holiday will be delayed by (1) day for the remainder of that week.
