AND A NEW HOLIDAY COLLECTION SCHEDULE ADOPTED

NOTE:  There is no longer a Wednesday/Saturday collection route in York City and a new holiday collection schedule is in effect.

RECYCLING and YARD WASTE are collected MONDAYS in the Monday/Thursday area and TUESDAYS in the Tuesday/Friday area.

The first change, The Wednesday/Saturday refuse district was divided in half along Market Street. The North half, including both sides of Market Street, was consolidated into the Monday/Thursday refuse district; the South half was consolidated into the Tuesday/Friday refuse district.

In order to service the same amount of customers in four days that were collected in six days, the contractor has dedicated additional vehicles, drivers and loaders to each of the two enlarged refuse districts.

The order in which collection routes are run may vary and customers are reminded that collections may be earlier or later than they are accustomed to.

Crews will not return for items that were not placed out on time.

To ensure collections, customers are reminded to place ALL items at the designated spot by 6 a.m. on their designated collection days.  Items that are placed out late, after crews have already gone through, must be held until the next regularly scheduled collection day.

Remember, collections begin as early as 6 a.m. and may continue as late as 9 p.m.  Customers may call York City’s Public Works office at 843-1240 or 849-2245 the following day to report a missed collection.

The second change
, a new holiday collection schedule is in effect.

For the holiday collection schedule, when a holiday falls on A WEEKEND, SATURDAY or SUNDAY, there will be NO CHANGE to collections.

When a holiday falls on ANY WEEKDAY, MONDAY thru FRIDAY, ALL curbside collections city-wide (this means EVERYONE'S collections) that fall ON or AFTER the holiday will be delayed by (1) day, beginning with the holiday and continuing throughout the remainder of the affected week.

For example, if a holiday falls on Thursday, collections for Monday and Tuesday are not affected.  However, ALL curbside collections for the remainder of that holiday week, Thursday and Friday, are delayed by (1) day.

2010 HOLIDAY COLLECTIONS:
To ensure collection, customers are reminded to place all items at the designated spot by 6 a.m. on the day of collection.
MONDAY, MAY 31, 2010 - MEMORIAL DAY

SUNDAY - JULY 4, 2010 - INDEPENDENCE DAY
Because this holiday falls on a weekend, there will be NO CHANGE to the collection schedule this week.  City offices will be closed on Monday, July 5th, however, Penn Waste will be making collections as usual.

MONDAY - SEPTEMBER 6, 2010 - LABOR DAY
There will be no collections on Monday, September 6th.
ALL curbside collections (trash, recycling, yard waste and scheduled large-items) for Monday thru Friday will be delayed by (1) day.  (For this week only, ALL Monday collections bump to Tuesday, ALL Tuesday collections bump to Wednesday, ALL Thursday collections bump to Friday and ALL Friday collections bump to Saturday.)

SATURDAY, DECEMBER 25, 2010 - CHRISTMAS DAY
Because this holiday falls on a weekend, there will be NO CHANGE to the collection schedule this week.  City offices will be closed on Thursday, December 23rd and Friday, December 24th, however Penn Waste will be making collections as usual.

SATURDAY, JANUARY 1, 2011 - NEW YEAR'S DAY

A FEW OTHER FACTS:
The above holiday collection schedule, which delays ALL collections that fall ON or AFTER the holiday by (1) day, is being used county-wide.
For curbside customers, there are only six major holidays which affect curbside collections each calendar year.  Those holidays are New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day.

The curbside collection contract between York City and Penn Waste, Inc. runs through April 30, 2011.
