YORK CITY REFUSE CUSTOMERS
NO GRASS IN YARD WASTE

GRASS clippings should be bagged with regular TRASH and should NOT be mixed with yard waste.  Consider letting clippings on the lawn.  Grass is about 80% water and will break down quickly and will return valuable nutrients to your lawn.  If you do collect or rake, place all grass clippings in the normal trash

NOTE:  Each billed unit may place up to 6 bags of trash for collection twice a week.  (This trash limit includes grass.)

YARD WASTE:  (Collections run March 1 – December 15 each year)
Keep materials clean and separate from trash.
(1) Bundle with TWINE (OR)
(2) Place in biodegradable kraft PAPER bags (OR)
(3) Place in the authorized yellow cans

PLASTIC bags of yard waste WILL NOT be collected.  Use biodegradeable PAPER leaf bags.

Max branch: 4” in diameter
Max bundle: 3’ x 3’ and 40#

Maximum paper bag or yellow can: 32 gallons and 40 pounds.
Do NOT line yellow yard waste cans with bags.

BIODEGRADABLE KRAFT PAPER BAGS are available to York City refuse customers for $5/pack of 10 bags in the Public Works Department, Monday-Friday, 8 AM - 4:30 PM.  Other paper leaf bags may be used and are sold at a variety of stores, such as Wal-Mart (vacuum cleaner aisle), Target (lawn & garden aisles) and seasonally at Lowes, (Prices vary and customers are encouraged to call these stores in advance to check availability.)

YELLOW YARD WASTE CANS are available to York City refuse customers for lease (up to 3 cans) for $10 each in the Public Works Department, Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM.  Cans remain the property of the City and will be confiscated if they are used for anything other than yard waste or if found outside the city limits.
