Carol Hill-Evans, a Democrat, was elected to York City Council in November 2007 and was sworn into office on January 7, 2008. Carol serves as the Vice President of Council and Chair of the Business Administration Committee of Council. She is currently employed with Harley-Davidson as a Human Resources Generalist.
Carol became interested in public service while in a previous position as neighborhood resource specialist for the city administration, which put her in touch with neighborhood associations and residents passionate about improving the city. Gradually, she became more involved herself.
Her neighborhood didn't have its own neighborhood organization, so Carol became a founding member of the Veterans Memorial Park Neighborhood Association and eventually spent two years as its president. She was appointed to the planning commission in 2005 and over recent months considered a run for Council as a next step.
Carol said her work as a liaison to neighborhood associations made her familiar with the needs of city residents.
"Having worked with them over the years, I want to be their voice," she said. "I want them to know they're not forgotten as far as the City Council's concerned -- as far as the city and the administration is concerned."
Carol said the city not only needs the economic development projects she's helped advance while on the planning commission, but community development to improve roads, sidewalks and public safety.
