Joe Musso is a Democrat first elected to City Council in November 2001.  He was sworn in on January 7, 2002, and was subsequently elected Vice-President of York City Council.  Joe was re-elected for a second term in November 2005, and was appointed President of Council in January 2008.  Joe serves as Chair of the Economic Development Committee of Council.

Joe began his public service with an appointment to the York City Planning Commission in 1986, and served as its Chair from 1990 through 2000.  As Chair, he directed the preparation of the city’s Strategic Comprehensive Plan, which provided a blueprint for the city’s recent economic development revival.  He served as Vice-Chair of the York City Zoning Board from 1988-1990.  In August 2000, the York County Commissioners appointed Joe to the York County Planning Commission, and he served as that board’s representative to the City of York through 2001. He is a former member of the Executive Board of the York County Democratic Party, where he served as Vice-Chair of Campaigns in 2000.

Joe and his wife Cathrine have five daughters currently attending college at William and Mary, Loyola College, Penn State University and York College.  They also have a daughter attending York Catholic High School and a son, Joe Jr., attending St. Patrick’s Elementary School.  Cathrine Musso was elected to serve as Committee-person for the Seventh Ward of the City of York in 2005, and she continues in that capacity today.

Joe is a self-employed Land Development Consultant, and maintains an office and residence at 43 N. Duke Street.  He has lived in the city his entire life, growing up with six siblings in their Fireside home.  Joe graduated from York Catholic High School in 1971, and went on to Penn State University as an engineering major.  He is currently a licensed Real Estate Salesperson and a Certified Residential Real Estate Appraiser.  Joe and his family are members of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church.
